CA Ditches Electric Truck Mandate

Pressured by legal action from seventeen states that would have been impacted, California has agreed to not just drop enforcement of its electric truck mandate, but to repeal it entirely.

Following the governor’s 2020 executive order that banned the sales of new internal-combustion engine cars in 2035, the state Air Resources Board devised two years ago a “world-leading regulation to phase out the sales of medium and heavy-duty combustion trucks in California by 2036.”

Surely Angelenos recall Mayor Karen Bass promising that the ash-and-rubble neighborhoods left by the January fires would be a priority for her administration. The administrative barriers and regulatory ambushes of old weren’t going to get in the way.

Yet in the middle of June, progress has moved at a pace not terribly dissimilar to the go-nowhere grind of the high-speed rail project.

To Improve Drug Affordability, Congress Should Fix The Payment System

Demanding that drug prices in the U.S. equal overseas prices is akin to demanding that the price of all expensive handbags should equal the prices for the knockoffs that people purchase from street vendors.

Of course knockoff bags are cheaper. They violate the intellectual property rights of the bag’s maker, use inferior materials, and fail to abide by local taxes and regulations. Due to these realities, imposing a handbag price control policy set at the knockoff price would undermine the viability of the entire high-end handbag market.
