Friend, I hate to have to bring you this news today, but it could impact your family and community, and I want you to have the information you need.
Overnight, the House GOP did the unthinkable and passed Trump’s budget reconciliation bill (the one he’s calling his “big, beautiful bill”) 215-214. It will now move to the Senate for reconciliation and a vote.

As you can see, not a single Democrat backed this bill, and here’s why:
- RAISES taxes on the middle and working classes while giving permanent huge tax breaks to the 1%. Estimates suggest this will balloon our deficit by $5T and cause the poorest among us to pay nearly $1,000 more per year in taxes.
- ELIMINATES healthcare for nearly 14 million of our most vulnerable Americans via massive cuts ($736B) to Medicaid. Many seniors, disabled people, and low-income families will lose access to care. 110,000 in my district alone are at risk.
- GUTS $300B from SNAP (nutrition) programs impacting 47 million Americans nationwide and nearly 125,000 people in my district, largely children and seniors.
- ELIMINATES all federal funding for Planned Parenthood, again disproportionally harming those who need healthcare resources the most.
- ROLLS BACK consumer tax credits and other climate change provisions in President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, impacting many loans, grants, and job-creating projects already in motion.
These are the big notes, but the list goes on and on. Trump and the GOP are sacrificing vital resources for American families — the most vulnerable American families — to give tax cuts to the wealthiest among us. I cannot overstate how dishonorable and harmful this is, and how strongly I condemn it.
The Senate will now debate what to include in their version of the bill. It’s a complicated process, but they likely have the numbers in both the House and Senate to come to an agreement and send a bill to President Trump over the coming weeks.
We must speak out and stand against this budget and fight for our future together. That’s exactly what I’ll be doing.
