 Friends, On Monday, with a midnight deadline, Planned Parenthood was officially forced out of the federal Title X program, which provides birth control, cancer screenings, STI treatment, and other reproductive healthcare to women across the country. Planned Parenthood serves more than 1.5 million patients through Title X nationwide. In New York, Planned Parenthood serves 52% of Title X patients and almost half of their health centers are in medically underserved areas. In many places, Planned Parenthood is the only provider available to communities of color and low-income New Yorkers. The health of our friends and neighbors is at risk -- all because President Trump’s administration has implemented a “gag rule” that prohibits clinics from receiving federal funds if doctors or medical providers discuss abortion -- even if the patient asks. We can’t let extreme politicians serve special interests instead of women and patients. We have to fight back.
