Hey John, this email is going to be a bit long, but please, can I introduce myself?

My name is Robert, and I’m a progressive Democratic state Senator in Illinois and candidate for the open Congressional seat in Illinois’ 2nd District.

I’m running for Congress because we need more progressives with a track record of delivering big wins in Washington, and because I’m ready to stand up for you and our neighbors against Donald Trump’s endless attacks on our rights.

Growing up, things weren’t easy for me.

My birth mother suffered from a substance abuse disorder, and I was put up for adoption. I also was born hard of hearing and didn’t start speaking until age 7.

Because of my disability, I struggled in school. Somehow, I wound up going to college, but couldn’t find a job when I left school during the Great Recession.

Time after time throughout my upbringing, I heard that “I’d never amount to anything.” And for a long time, I believed it.

But things started to turn around for me when I began organizing in my community.

I mobilized my neighbors around issues like raising the minimum wage and ending cash bail, and I saw firsthand the power of community when we all stand together.

And flash forward today, I’m serving in the Illinois Senate, representing the district that Barack Obama once represented!

In the Illinois Senate, I’ve been the leading voice for working people and justice for all.

Now, I’m running for Congress because I got to where I am because of my community, and I’m ready to bring that community to Congress and fight like hell for kids like me who are told they’ll never amount to anything.

But to get this message to Congress it’s going to take grassroots support from people like you!
