John: Overnight, the House GOP advanced their budget bill to a floor vote, and it passed 215-214.
Not a single Democrat voted for this monstrous legislation that Trump calls his “big, beautiful bill.” It will now move to the Senate.
This bill gives massive permanent tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires — their biggest government handout EVER — and to compensate, the GOP will cut off more than 13 million Americans from their healthcare and slash other vital programs for our most vulnerable.
Earlier this week, GOP leadership forced a hearing in the dead of night to debate the bill with no one watching (not a great sign of faith in their own legislation); It lasted 22 hours as Democrats fought for amendments. As a member of the House Rules Committee, I used my role to call out the GOP’s betrayal and protect American families from crippling cuts to SNAP and Medicaid. Their cruelty truly knows no bounds.
This may impact you and your family, and I want you to know what the GOP just passed in the House.
GOP BUDGET BILL
AKA “ONE BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL ACT”
|
Here’s what this legislation does:
- Cuts $800 billion in Medicaid spending, enforces a work requirement, and cuts off over 13 million Americans from their healthcare.
- Cuts $300 billion in SNAP funding.
- Defunds Planned Parenthood.
- Adds over $200 billion for immigration and defense spending.
- Reverses President Biden’s attempts to curb fossil fuels to help address climate change and makes drilling, logging, and mining less monitored.
- Makes permanent the billionaire tax cuts from Trump’s first term (the whole reason for this bill in the first place).

Next steps:
- This legislation will now move to the Senate. I will keep you updated on the movement, vote, and any updates as things unfold.

Millions of children and elderly citizens across the country will lose access to food and healthcare so that the 1% can permanently keep their unprecedented tax cuts gifted by Trump. This legislation is cruel, and it will undoubtedly hurt millions of Americans.
Medicaid cuts threaten access to care for ALL Americans, plain and simple. Cuts to Medicaid will push hospitals, nursing homes, and health clinics into bankruptcy. When those places close, it’s harder for everyone else to get healthcare, too.
Gutting Medicaid, SNAP, Planned Parenthood, and regressing on our climate change mitigation policies… how is this a government prioritizing the people?
I will keep you updated as more unfolds. But know that I promise to be a strong voice of opposition and do everything in my power to protect life-saving resources for you.
