Legislative Update

________________________________________________________________________

Dear Friends,

The 2025 legislative session has officially ended but unfortunately, the jobs not over. We’re now headed into a special session, with no word yet on when it will begin. This situation highlights exactly why it’s so important to show up on day one ready to work. The 23 days the House spent idle at the start of session back in February have proven to be incredibly consequential. Minnesotans deserve a Legislature that uses every day wisely, and I’ll continue pushing to make sure the final budget reflects the values and priorities of our district.

*Veterans Bill Passes*

One major bright spot was the passage of the Veterans and Military Affairs bill over the weekend, which includes support for housing, mental health care, and workforce development for those who’ve served. As a veteran myself, I was proud to support this bipartisan legislation. [Watch my House floor testimony here [ [link removed] ].]

*Anti-Fraud Bill Blocked by House DFL*

This week, the House DFL blocked a bipartisan bill that would have created an independent Office of the Inspector General to oversee state agencies and crack down on fraud and abuse. This approach has worked in other states and was even based on language from the *Senate DFL*. Unfortunately, politics got in the way of good policy. [See KARE 11’s report on the bill [ [link removed] ].]

*What’s Done — and What’s Left*

We made progress in some areas, but several major bills are still unfinished. The graphic below shows which committees have wrapped up and which are still waiting on action in the special session.
