In a New York state senate district that Trump won with 77% of the vote less than a year ago, Democrat Sam Sutton defeated the MAGA backed Republican by over double digits - amounting to an unprecedented 91 point swing in the Dems favor. This comes off the heels of Democrats scoring a massive upset in the Omaha, Nebraska mayoral election, Elon Musk’s trouncing in the Wisconsin supreme court race, and the shocking overperformance by Democrats in deep red districts in the FL special elections.
The backlash is growing to Trump’s fascist regime, not only galvanizing Democrats to turn out in historic numbers, but also causing independents and GOP voters to flee MAGA at record pace. All signs point to a massive blue wave building for the 2026 midterm elections.
But we have to be frank. We cannot rely on national Democrats to build the blue wave by themselves. There is a massive vacuum in leadership at the top of the party and they have made countless strategic mistakes time and time again that have led to the nightmare we see ourselves in now. It’s up to the working class roots of the party to rise to the moment in their stead - just like we have in Florida, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and New York.
