Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) is now facing federal criminal charges after allegedly assaulting federal officers during a chaotic scene at a New Jersey ICE detention facility earlier this month.
 

According to the Department of Justice, McIver is charged with assaulting, resisting, and impeding law enforcement officers while participating in what Democrats claimed was a “federal oversight visit” at Delaney Hall Detention Center in Newark.

More than three years after Ashli Babbitt, an unarmed Air Force veteran and Trump supporter, was shot and killed by Capitol Police during the January 6th protest, the Department of Justice has now agreed to pay her family $5 million in a settlement.

The settlement comes after Babbitt’s husband, Aaron Babbitt, filed a $30 million lawsuit against the government, claiming her death was unjustified and preventable. The shooting occurred as Ashli tried to step through a broken window near the Speaker’s Lobby inside the Capitol. She was wearing a stars and stripes backpack and had a Trump flag draped around her neck.
