During his election night victory speech, Donald Trump promised that he would “be president for all Americans.”
But now, over three and a half years later, the president’s true character has come to light. Donald Trump has only stoked racial division in America. He’s repeatedly used the phrase “Chinese virus” to refer to the pandemic, which experts say directly translates to increased incidents of bigotry against the AAPI population.
There’s no doubt Trump’s xenophobic rhetoric has done just that -- the organization Stop AAPI Hate has reported more than 1,700 incidents of discrimination toward Asian Americans over the course of just 6 weeks.
Now, as he falls in the polls, Donald Trump is shamelessly courting AAPI votes. Trump wants credit for the economic relief provided by the CARES Act and the Paycheck Protection Program -- in spite of the fact that Trump has rejected the idea of further aid to Americans and that his administration has released no official data on the PPP (which large corporations have been able to raid freely).
Trump doesn’t get to promise to represent all Americans, turn around and violently divide us instead, and then take credit for an economic recovery that isn’t happening.
Not if we stop him.
