John,
Trump’s DOJ is abandoning some of the communities most harmed by police violence.
The Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division announced today that they're dismissing lawsuits against the Louisville and Minneapolis police departments—despite findings of a clear pattern of violations of Black people’s civil rights by said authorities. As a reminder, these lawsuits were based on investigations into the murders of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd.
Press Release from the Department of Justice
These lawsuits—and accompanying consent decrees—were crucial steps toward justice for police violence in a system of white supremacy and dismissing them is a huge step backwards.
Consent decrees are effectively a court-ordered improvement plan for local law enforcement agencies who have a pattern of misconduct. They come with independent oversight and are often the result of DOJ investigations into civil rights violations.
The Trump administration doesn’t care about the very REAL patterns of abuse and discrimination that these consent decrees were based on. They only care about giving the police free rein to continue killing Black people with little to no consequences.
These are measures that WE fought for. WE protested for. WE risked our lives for.
Now Trump’s DOJ is abandoning the very communities harmed by police violence, including those still grieving Breonna Taylor and George Floyd—just four days before the angelversary of George’s murder at the hands of Minneapolis police.
This is white supremacy at work.
We refuse to let Trump and his band of petty tyrants erase accountability for police brutality. We're doubling down on organizing, investing in community, and fighting for transformative justice.
This goes beyond the now. We’re not just going to resist in these moments; we're going to outstrategize and outlive these signs of fear from this administration no matter what they do.
But we need your support.
Donate today to help us push back against Trump’s racist DOJ agenda and build real community safety and accountability.

Trump and his administration are counting on us turning away, hoping that we think “enough time” has passed. Minneapolis and Louisville are just the start, John. They’re reportedly doing the same in six other cities, and are counting on us not fighting back.
Trump’s dismissal of these lawsuits is a direct attack on Black lives and Black communities. He is choosing to protect the police once again.
But our response is louder, stronger, and clearer than ever: we will not be silenced or ignored.
Join us in this fight. Donate anything you can today. Together, we’re not going to back down and we’ll continue to call for justice loudly and proudly until we achieve Black liberation.
In solidarity,
Black Lives Matter
Our grassroots movement is pushing for Black liberation every single day. We are striving to create a world where Black people do so much more than just survive. It’s time we thrive.
As an organization one of our biggest hurdles is consistency.
A recurring contribution of anything you can afford goes a long way as we plan for the months, years, and even decades ahead. This is the most effective way for small-dollar donors (like you) to power our Black liberation work.
Will you make a recurring contribution of $5 or more today so that we can keep building momentum for our movement?
