Hello,
Last night, at 1 in the morning, House Republicans put the reconciliation bill (the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill”) before the House Rules Committee.
It’s unprecedented to debate such consequential legislation in the dead of night. There are four big problems I want to emphasize with this bill.
- It will add trillions to the deficit, making it worse than it’s ever been.
- It will give tax cuts to some of the wealthiest people in the country.
- It cuts healthcare for 14 million people, which will be awful for the affected families and for our healthcare providers.
- It does not restore SALT. And even though the President came to Nassau County during the campaign and promised to fix SALT, this bill does not give the tax relief that Long Island and Queens need.
I’m calling on the SALT advocates on the Republican side to hold the line and not vote for this bill until we get relief. We need to get back to common sense and work on a bipartisan basis to deliver SALT relief, protect healthcare, cut the deficit, and make the economy work for everyone.
This bill does not do that. Watch my full video statement here.
Thank you for reading this, and I’ll keep you updated. If you want to support my work in Congress and help me win reelection in this competitive district, click here to make a contribution.
Thank you,
