Take Action: Protect SNAP, Medicaid, and Immigrant Families
advocate,

We have an urgent ask regarding an upcoming vote on Congress’s reconciliation package, The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which is quickly moving through the House.

This bill seeks to slash funding for essential social safety net programs like SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and Medicaid, and would impose harmful new eligibility barriers that disproportionately impact our elders, children, and low-income families.

Key harmful provisions include:
  • Cutting $267 billion from the SNAP food program over the next 10 years, which means fewer people can get help buying food.
  • Making it harder to get health care through Medicaid. Struggling Americans will face even more obstacles to health insurance, especially those who don’t have the time, money, or support to meet new requirements.
  • Charging more fees to immigrant Americans. The bill adds new costs to apply for asylum, work papers, and other forms that immigrants need to live and work here safely.
Why this matters to our community:
Our AANHPI communities include many immigrant families and low-income households who depend on these programs to meet basic needs. According to AAPI Data:
  • 1 in 9 Asian Americans and 1 in 6 Pacific Islanders live below the Federal Poverty Level.
  • Over 1.7 million Asian Americans and 72,000 Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders qualify for federal support programs.
  • Almost 1 in 10 Asian Americans and 1 in 4 Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders get food help from SNAP.
  • Almost 1 in 7 Asian Americans and 1 in 5 Pacific Islanders use Medicaid to get health care.
  • More than 1 in 4 Asian American children and 4 in 10 Pacific Islander children rely on free or reduced school lunches.
Cutting these programs and adding harsher rules will make life much more difficult for families who are already doing their best.

What you can do:
Call your representative in Congress today. Ask them to vote NO on The One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
