It's with heavy hearts that we share the news of Representative Gerry Connolly's (D-VA-11) passing after his battle with cancer. As the Ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee and representative for Virginia's 11th District, Representative Connolly was a principled leader who fought tirelessly for government accountability, civil liberties, and working families.
Representative Connolly was someone who actually made government work better for people. Whether it was holding federal agencies accountable, protecting civil rights, or delivering for his Northern Virginia constituents, he brought both sharp policy knowledge and real decency to the job.

While we didn't always see eye to eye on every issue, his willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue and grow in his understanding made him an important ally. We're grateful for the times he stood with us, and hope his example of open engagement continues to inspire those who follow.
We'll share information about memorial arrangements when they're available. Right now, our thoughts are with his wife Cathy, his family, and his dedicated staff who served alongside him for so many years.
His absence will be deeply felt, but his impact on our community and country will last. May he rest in peace.
