Dear supporters,
Did you know that several highly important bills will be heard today on the Texas House floor? This is great news, but we need your help to cross the finish line!
Today, the Texas House will hear:
SB 33 by Sen. Campbell/Rep. Noble to ban taxpayer funds being used by government entities for logistical support of abortion. If you remember, some cities in Texas such as Austin and San Antonio have tried to direct taxpayer funds to abortion organizations that, while not directly funding abortions, provide all kinds of logistical services to Texans seeking abortions such as funds for airfare, child care stipends, food, and much more. Texas Values has fought the City of Austin for years because of this loophole. SB 33 will finally make it clear that taxpayer funds cannot be used to fund organizations that logistically support those seeking an abortion."
SB 10 by Sen. King/Rep. Noble to display the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms. The U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 decision in Kennedy v. Bremerton cleared the way to recognizing the unmatched historical importance to our state and nation of religion in general and the Ten Commandments in particular.
SB 11 by Sen. Middleton/Rep. Spiller & SB 965 by Sen. Parker/Chair Leach allow a voluntary time of religious expression or prayer at public and charter schools (also known as the "Coach Kennedy Bill"). SB 11 codifies in Texas statute the practice of religious freedom through private religious observances in public schools. The U.S. Supreme Court already allows this based on the Kennedy decision and it is important to put it into Texas statutes to ensure it will last and Texans will always be protected!
