Friend,
As we prepare for Memorial Day and the warm reprieve of
summer vacation, we must not forget to prioritize responsibility. With
more time spent on the road during the summer months, it’s more
important than ever to take steps to get there responsibly by being
vigilant, mindful, and respectful of the laws, personal limits, and
the precious lives with whom we share the roads.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration, an estimated 12,429 people were killed in drunk
driving crashes involving a driver with an illegal BAC (.08 or
greater) in 2023 (latest available data), including 3,832 drunk
driving fatalities that occurred during the 100 days between Memorial
Day and Labor Day. While this number has decreased 6% since
last year, this is still too many precious lives lost, and our work is
not done until this number reaches zero. These crashes are 100%
preventable. This summer, as you gather with your friends, family, and
loved ones, take steps to get
there responsibly.
Have a safe holiday and remember to take a moment this
weekend to reflect on the selfless acts of our nation’s heroes. Let’s
continue to do our part by celebrating responsibly and honoring their
legacy.
-Happy Memorial Day from the Responsibility.org
