ZIONIST ORGANIZATION OF AMERICA NEWS RELEASE ZOA Strongly Supports Israel Applying Sovereignty to Judea and Samaria and the Jordan Valley Immediately It’s the Law International law provides for Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria and the Jordan Valley. These laws include the San Remo resolution, League of Nations Covenant – Article 22, British Mandate, the Anglo-American Convention, and UN Charter Article 80. No Law Against It There is no international law or U.S. law that impedes Israel’s right to Judea and Samaria and the Jordan Valley. Keeps Jews Safe (and Independent) Sovereignty assures Israeli security and defensible borders, so Israel can defend herself by herself. Over 1,000 high-ranking Israeli Defense Forces officers and commanders, in the “Protectors of Israel” movement, explain that sovereignty will secure Israel for decades; that the Jordan Valley “is the natural eastern border and defensive barrier for the land of Israel,” and that sovereignty is necessary because Israel must count on her own strength to deter her enemies. Stable Homes for Half a Million Jews Sovereignty provides stability, normalcy and the protections of Israeli laws for 500,000 Jews who already live on this land, and prevents ethnic cleansing of Jews. History Jews are indigenous to this land. We are called Jews because we are from Judea. Arabs are not indigenous to this land. Most hail from Arabia and North Africa. There was never a Palestinian state here. This is the land where the first Jews Abraham and Sarah lived, King David was anointed and ruled, Jacob slept and dreamt, Joseph is buried, the Maccabees established their base, and Jewish kingdoms existed for hundreds of years. Protects Holy Sites for All Faiths Sovereignty assures access to the Jewish holy sites, and assures safe access to religious sites of all faiths. The Promised Land G-d promised this land to the Jewish people. Israel’s Moderate Arab Neighbors Agree Israeli sovereignty is tacitly agreed to by moderate Sunni Arab states, and will mean a safer, more prosperous region for all. Our Time is Now After thousands of years of exile and struggle, there is a rare opportunity for sovereignty while President Trump is in office. Waiting or Capitulating Will Not Bring Peace Delaying or capitulating has not brought peace. Israel not applying sovereignty for the past 53 years (since Israel recaptured this land in 1967 in a defensive war) did not bring peace. The Palestinian Arabs have turned down multiple offers of statehood, and have refused to even negotiate for the past decade, because their real goal is not land and statehood – it’s Israel’s destruction. Veto power should not be given to the terrorist Palestinian Authority which continues to pay terrorists to murder Jews. Speculative Fears are Baseless Speculative fears raised by sovereignty opponents are as baseless and exaggerated as the speculative fears raised by opponents of moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem. These naysayers should not control Israel’s actions and rights. The Biblical episode of the meraglim (spies or scouts) (Torah portion Shelach) underscores that fear-mongering is the real danger. Ten of the 12 spies allowed fear to cloud their judgment, and wrongly reported that it would be impossible for the Jews to capture the land. As a result, G-d relegated the Israelites to wandering in the desert for 40 years. The People of Israel Want Sovereignty – NOW Many polls should that Israelis strongly support sovereignty. Yes to Sovereignty – No to a Palestinian Terrorist State We say yes to sovereignty for peaceful Israel, and no to a state for terrorists or terror sponsors. To assure Israeli security and facilitate easy access to Jerusalem and other parts of Israel, we urge that maps should insure that Israeli roads and communities are not cut off or surrounded by a Palestinian entity.
