9 protests in 5 days. And we're just getting started.

Hi John,

Over the past 5 days, DxE activists have protested across Sonoma County to expose the truth about Perdue’s Petaluma Poultry and demand accountability for their animal cruelty.

On Saturday, we disrupted the Rose Parade in Santa Rosa, which is sponsored by the Sonoma County Farm Bureau, one of Petaluma Poultry's biggest defenders.
Watch a short video recap here. We jumped into the parade route right in front of the Farm Bureau's float and displayed banners and signs calling out Petaluma Poultry's cruelty. We were able to march all the way to the end of the parade, past thousands of spectators lining the sidewalk. Local press about the parade mentioned our protest and included a video of it.

Our other protests over the past 5 days included:
  • 3 grocery store protests at Trader Joe’s and Oliver’s Market, demanding they stop selling abused chickens from Petaluma Poultry
  • 3 home demonstrations—near the home of Jason Arnold, Petaluma Poultry's Director of Operations, as well as at the home of Sonoma County District Attorney Carla Rodriguez, who refuses to prosecute Petaluma Poultry for its crimes against animals. We displayed a large image of DA Rodriguez’s face with the words “I ENABLE ANIMAL CRUELTY.”
  • 1 educational factory farm driving tour, which started at Petaluma Poultry's hatchery and visited some of the company's largest farms
  • 1 daytime protest in front of the Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse, plus nighttime vigils there to bear witness
We’re shining a light on every stage of this violent system—from the hatchery where the chicks are born never knowing their mothers, to the factory farms where they suffer for their short, 6-week lives, to the slaughterhouse where they’re brutally killed, to the stores that sell their broken bodies, to the slaughterhouse director who profits off the abuse, and to the District Attorney who looks the other way and enables it all.

The DA’s office has repeatedly ignored our reports of documented animal cruelty, including horrific
footage DxE activists recorded two weeks ago at a vigil. The footage shows feces-covered birds with scratches and deep, open wounds packed on a Petaluma Poultry transport truck, with diarrhea raining down on them from the birds in the cages above. The DA didn't even bother responding.
We will never stop speaking up for the victims of Petaluma Poultry and for all animals facing exploitation and violence. The week of action continues with more protests today and tomorrow, and then we’ll kick off the 2025 Animal Liberation Conference in Santa Rosa! I can't wait!

ALC is the largest grassroots animal rights conference in North America, uniting hundreds of activists for trainings, workshops, and powerful nonviolent direct action.

Stay tuned for updates during ALC!

In solidarity,
Cassie
