The contest (then the World of 7 Billion Student Video Contest) first ran during the 2010-2011 school year as a “teachable moment” around the world population reaching 7 billion. That year, we received 619 videos from 36 U.S. states and four countries abroad. Originally meant as a one-time event, the contest is now held annually, thanks to an outpouring of positive feedback from teachers who wanted to make the contest a permanent project in their classrooms.
Now in its 14th year, over 32,000 student videos on the impacts of population have been created as a direct result of the contest. Thousands of students are now more aware of the deep connections between population growth and so many of today’s pressing global challenges. Click through to see this year's winning entries! |
