Phase Two relaxes some of the restrictions currently in force in Phase One, but still requires limitations to ensure social distancing. As members think about how to operate safely in Phase Two and beyond, the Government Affairs & Economic Development Committee will welcome Arlington Health Director Reuben Varghese, M.D. and Environmental Health Manager Candice Wooden at its meeting on Wednesday, June 17, 9:00-10:00 a.m. Also, as with our in-person meetings in the VIDA Fitness Boardroom, participation in this online Government Affairs & Economic Development Committee meeting is exclusively for members of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. RSVP Northern Virginia Enters Phase Two Arlington began Phase Two of the Forward Virginia reopening plan last Friday. Phase Two relaxes some of the restrictions that were in force in Phase One, but still requires limitations to ensure social distancing. The Phase Two Guidelines include guidance to all sectors on best practices for physical distancing, enhanced cleaning and disinfection, and enhanced workplace safety. As with the Phase One guidelines, they also include many industry-specific requirements and best practices. I am angry that they are forced to grow up in a world in which the color of their skin can be a death sentence. COVID-19’s disproportionate and devastating impact on communities of color has laid bare pre-existing racial and socio-economic disparities across the country. Today, our black and brown students are fighting on two fronts: they are fighting against the systemic racism they experience every day, while fighting for their own and their families’ health and stability in the midst of a pandemic.
