America’s labor rights are under attack in every state across our country!
Policies are in place that severely weaken our workplace protections and make it easier for companies to retaliate against workers for seeking better conditions, or fair pay.
Duplicitous “Right to Work” laws
Deceitful legislation masquerading as fair and common sense agreements
Attacks on the fundamental rights of America’s working class
The Citizens’ United ruling, which treats corporations as individuals

These laws punish any person exercising their right as an American to organize their workplace.

We saw the aftermath of the Citizens United ruling in full play last week when Royal Dutch Shell sponsored what amounted to a political event for President Trump. Workers were told that the choice to attend the rally was theirs. However, they could lose potential pay if they did not attend.

A spokesperson from Royal Dutch Shell said employees not in attendance could still receive “paid time off,” but paid time off does not count toward overtime pay on which many employees rely. On top of that, in a memo circulated prior to the event, workers were specifically asked not to protest or yell at the rally.

The Trump administration claimed the trip was scheduled to share their energy platform, while Royal Dutch Shell described Trump as the guest speaker, marketing the event as both a “training event” and an endeavor and ironically noted it was also an attempt to strengthen relationships with the Administration and union organizers. It’s evident from Trump’s speech that this was nothing more than another campaign rally.

The Citizens United ruling has opened the door for corporations to put their mark on elections and even pressure workers to partake in particular campaign events. The ruling allows corporations free rein in manipulating elections and even coercing employee involvement in political campaigns.
