Dear John,

For most of us – indeed, for almost everyone who shares this precious planet of ours – uncertainty about the future has become just about the only thing we can actually count on. More and more every day, we simply can’t imagine what next year will bring – or even next week.

For people living in already marginalized communities, like the farmworker community in Immokalee, this new chaos threatens their very survival. From the fight to end police brutality, to the struggle of essential workers to protect themselves during the COVID-19 pandemic, the threat is existential, and the time for concrete action is now.

The moral imperative to stand with the leaders on the front lines has never been more urgent. That is why, this week, we are asking you to become a Fair Food Sustainer and give monthly to strengthen the Fair Food Program.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fair Food Nation has risen to the challenge of protecting the health, dignity and safety of farmworkers. We have reached tens of thousands of farmworkers with life-saving information about how to protect oneself and one’s community from the deadly virus. We have swiftly built new partnerships with two of the world’s leading health care organizations – the Nobel Prize-winning Doctors Without Borders and Partners in Health – to bring urgently-needed medical resources to Immokalee. We have elevated the threat to farmworkers to the national stage through strategic media outreach, including op/eds, interviews, and feature articles in the New York Times, the Washington Post, and CNN. And we have mobilized tens of thousands of consumers in support of Immokalee.
And as always, the Fair Food Program has provided a lifeline to essential workers, like Angelina, who are facing unprecedented risks to their health and safety. We are taking calls 24 hours a day to answer questions, resolve complaints, and connect workers to resources.

As positive coronavirus cases continue to skyrocket in Immokalee, we must redouble all of those efforts. And we can’t do that without your support.

Every day, as crisis, suffering, and chaos loom large on the evening news, we are all looking for something we can do that will truly create change.  Become a Fair Food Sustainer today, and help expand enforceable, life-saving protections for the essential workers who harvest our food.

If 2020 has taught us anything, it is that we are all in this together. We cannot be truly healthy if our neighbor is not well; our economy cannot be truly strong if our essential workers are hurting. Without farmworkers, there is no food – for all of us.
