Protecting trans kids shouldn't be controversial. But I will keep fighting.
Friends – my parents taught me one of the most valuable lessons anyone can learn.
They taught me that you should never stand on the side of the bully.
They taught me to always help the person getting bullied.
So when I see the President of the United States, the richest man in the world, and the Republican majority in our state Senate pushing a cruel and divisive bill like Senate Bill 9, I know exactly where I stand:
I will always be on the side of the kid who just wants to play ball with their friends and with the parents who simply want to see their child live to be an adult.
Let's be clear: Senate Bill 9 is nothing more than a targeted attack on trans kids. It forces schools to label sports teams by sex assigned at birth and bans trans girls from joining girls' teams. It even encourages lawsuits against schools that don’t comply. They call it the “Save Women’s Sports Act.”
I call it what it is: a hateful, controversial, and divisive bill that is a complete waste of everyone's time and energy.
Since standing up for trans kids on the Senate floor, I’ve received death threats. People have told me I deserve to be thrown into a meat grinder or punched in the face. And the worst messages? They came from men outraged that I didn’t support a bill that targets children under the false flag of “protecting women.”
But I won’t be silenced. Not by threats. Not by bullies. Not now, not ever.
