Dear Health Advocates,

In yet another middle of the night meeting, on Sunday House Republicans moved a full budget bill out of the Budget Committee. While the version of the bill the committee passed will slash Medicaid, target the ACA marketplace, and strip coverage from more than 13.7 million Americans, some Republicans are pushing for deeper cuts to health care. Next up is the Rules Committee, which plans to begin markup of this bill tonight, starting at 1:00 AM ET, once again pushing historic and harmful cuts to Medicaid through the House in the dark of night.

Speaker Johnson's goal remains to have the House vote on a final reconciliation bill by the end of this week, though opposition from hard-liners and conversations with Representatives focused on state and local taxes (SALT) could slow this process.

Families USA and our partners have numerous ways for you to get involved and make your voice heard this week, including:

  • New Report: Medicaid Expansion Reduces Maternal Mortality: Medicaid Cuts Would Be Deadly for Mothers and Babies, which shows that Medicaid coverage is critical to the health of moms and babies, and the states that have expanded Medicaid coverage to more people see lower maternal death rates than those that haven’t. The findings reinforce the urgent need to protect and strengthen Medicaid as a vital tool in promoting maternal health and preventing avoidable deaths.
