In Sunnyvale, I visited Teriyaki Madness—founded by Vietnamese American brothers Eddie and Edwin Truong. Raised by refugee parents, they turned their family’s story of resilience into a successful business grounded in gratitude and community giving. Before opening, they donated over 200 meals to local nonprofits—a true example of giving back.

Second Chances & Social Enterprises
Congratulations to Homeboy Industries on launching their 14th social enterprise: Homeboy Puppy Fades! This dog grooming salon in Pasadena joins their impactful network of job-training businesses for formerly incarcerated and gang-involved individuals. It’s more than grooming—it’s healing, hope, and economic empowerment. Support their work.

Alongside Assemblymember Mike Gipson, I toured Today’s Fresh Start Charter School, where students are already saving for college and pursuing their dreams. Founded by Dr. Jeanette Grattan Parker, the school blends strong academics, community partnerships, and data-driven learning to close achievement gaps and build a bright future for every student.

Celebrating Cultural & Culinary Storytelling
Chef Katie Chin’s one-woman show “Holy Shiitake! A Wok Star is Born” tells a powerful story of family, food, and self-discovery. From her mother’s legacy to her own journey as a chef, author, and advocate, Katie shares the joy and resilience that defines Asian American heritage—served with a side of stir-fry and laughter.

Fighting for Workers & Expanding Opportunity

Walking the Line for Worker Rights
On May 1st, International Workers’ Day, I joined UPTE-CWA members in their fight for fair contracts and better conditions at the University of California. Healthcare, research, and technical professionals are essential to our public institutions—and it’s time we prioritize people over profits.

One Day Longer, One Day Stronger
I stood in solidarity with NUHW healthcare workers at Kaiser Sunset and across the state. After months of organizing, their tentative agreement is a testament to the power of perseverance and collective action. When we fight together, we win.

Access to Justice for All
The Coalition of Concerned Legal Professionals (CCLP) is celebrating 36 years of volunteer-led advocacy, offering free legal support and promoting grassroots empowerment for low-income communities. Their work is a reminder that justice must be led by—and for—those most impacted.

Honoring Culture & Community

Spotlight on AAPI Excellence
It was a joy to welcome cinema icon Nancy Kwan and Chairwoman Lynn Valbuena to the Asian Hall of Fame, which honors AAPI brilliance in the arts, leadership, and global impact. Founded by the Robert Chinn Foundation, the Hall celebrates cross-cultural unity and trailblazing excellence. Learn more.
