Brussels faces a busy week ahead, with two online summits, ministerial video conferences and a packed plenary session. On Thursday, leaders from the EU and the Eastern Partnership countries will discuss the long-term perspective of their cooperation. On Friday, the European Council will focus on the 'Next Generation EU' recovery fund and the EU's new long term budget. A decision on the matter is expected at a later stage.
MEPs will take part in a 3-day plenary session to debate and vote on a number of issues including the Conference on the Future of Europe, guidelines for the EU’s budget for 2021, the future EU-UK relations and the Eastern Partnership. A debate with the Council and the Commission on the anti-racism protests following the death of George Floyd will kick off the session on Wednesday afternoon.

This week’s plenary will give MEPs a chance to debate, amend and vote on a number of texts, including on the Conference on the Future of Europe, recommendations on the negotiations for a new partnership with the UK, the establishment of a framework to facilitate sustainable investment, guidelines for the EU’s budget for 2021, recommendations for the Eastern Partnership as well as the Western Balkans, European protection of cross-border and seasonal workers in the context of the pandemic, and the situation in the Schengen area. MEPs will also be briefed by the Commission on foreign policy consequences of the pandemic and on plans to tackle COVID-19 disinformation.

During their weekly College meeting, Commissioners will discuss President von der Leyen's strategy for the development of a COVID-19 vaccine as well as a white paper on an instrument on foreign subsidies (VP Vestager) and a report on the impact of demographic change (VP Suica). Moreover, Commissioners will take part in various debates of the plenary as well as the leaders' summits.

On Thursday, leaders from the EU and the Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine) will take part in an online summit to discuss their shared, long-term policy objectives in the context of the post-2020 Eastern Partnership.
EU leaders will meet again on Friday for a European Council video conference to discuss the Commission’s latest proposal for a new recovery instrument and the Multiannual Financial Framework for 2021-2027.
