Why El Paso GOP is Struggling
==========
The last 36 hours or so have brought to light just how bad the division is within the El Paso Republican Party. There is a group of people that are waiting to take power (new GOP Chairman and his supporters). Older, more reserved Conservatives form a group of people who support the current leadership until the end of his term. The problem at hand is that the group led by Rick Seeberger that is waiting to take power is viciously attacking the candidates that show allegiance to the current Chairman.
Some of the problems stem from a deep-seated dislike of current Chairman Adolpho Telles. It is a faction of the party that has disagreed with him on nearly every issue. I personally have had disagreements with Mr. Telles in the past, but until August 3rd he is the Chairman and needs to have the support and respect of the entire party.
This primary has been extremely bitter due to the faction that opposes Mr. Telles. Just the fact that there were 6 candidates in the Congressional primary makes one think that this was by design. Several of the candidates had a minimal past voting record or a record that was clearly a liberal one, yet they all claimed to be Republicans. I personally was attacked on the fact that I ran in 2018 as an Independent write-in candidate. I could not run as a Republican as Mr. Seeberger was the GOP nominee. Running as an Independent write-in was the only way to be on the ballot. This is something that some of the other candidates attacked, but still consistently leave the write-in part out of their attack. Being attacked is a part of politics. It is the nature of the beast. My assessment of each of my opponents showed that only one had a true history of being a Republican. The other four either had voted as a Democrat in the past or had little to no voting history.
Over the last couple of weeks, the Seeberger faction has mounted a major assault on the candidates that will not bow down to him. Several of his supporters have attacked the families of the candidates to include small children or grandchildren. These people are either candidates that lost in the primary or are supporters and followers of these candidates. One of the candidates made many false accusations about me. He continues to this day even though he supported me in 2018. He also jumped from one campaign to the other but did not vote in the 2018 midterm race. Do not know for sure why. Maybe he was not eligible to vote at that time. Once a little digging was done it was discovered that this candidate had a serious criminal past. Yes, I exploited that because if he had won the primary the Democrats would have beat the Republicans into the ground with that information. Or did they plant people into this GOP Congressional race to dilute the vote to keep myself from being the winner because they know that I am the only one that can unseat Escobar?
In this social media driven world, people tend to show who they really are behind a keyboard as they know that they cannot be confronted face to face by the people they are bashing. Many people will decline an invitation if asked to meet face to face to discuss their issues. Only one person so far has accepted an invitation to meet. It was a good meeting, until recently when that person broke their word and began an attack on myself, my family, another candidate, and his family. I have personally stayed out of this drama. Some of the comments are horrible, even going so far as to dragging small children into these attacks. Many have captured screenshots of the comments but seem to forget that with modern technology even screenshots can be manipulated or outright falsified so they can make their case against someone. To be used as evidence in court they must be subpoenaed from the owner of the social media platform that was used to capture the screenshots (Facebook, Twitter, or other platforms). Even printed versions of screenshots can be altered.
