The House will vote THIS WEEK on the budget reconciliation bill. Urge your Representatives to stop this dangerous legislation that would give Congress broad powers over federal regulations and make billions in cuts to SNAP and Medicaid. ([link removed])

Take Action! ([link removed])

John,

Late yesterday, in the middle of the night, House Republicans on the Budget Committee voted to advance a budget reconciliation bill that includes a sneaky and dangerous provision that hampers agencies’ ability to adopt important regulations, including those that safeguard our food and water.

In addition to slashing food assistance and Medicaid, the bill includes the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act (REINS Act), which, as modified, would require congressional approval of major regulations that increase revenue issued by federal agencies before they could go into effect. This bill would seriously threaten our government’s ability to protect the public from harm and instead benefit corporations hoping to evade safety standards.

This bill is so unpopular that House Leadership scheduled the next procedural vote for Wednesday at - I kid you not - 1:00 am!

Their intention is to put it on the floor for a vote THIS WEEK. Your Representatives need to hear from you now!

Take action today: Tell your members of Congress to oppose the dangerous budget reconciliation bill, including the REINS Act! ([link removed])

Take Action! ([link removed])

The REINS Act would dramatically expand the Congressional Review Act to require Congressional approval before major federal regulations and rules that increase revenue go into effect.

On issues ranging from toxic chemicals in our water to food safety, this would delay critical regulations, undermine regulatory agencies' expertise, and give Congress the power to repeal numerous rules and regulations in a single resolution!

This dangerous provision would also seek to eliminate existing regulations if they are not renewed and approved by Congress within five years, hampering the ability of agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency to protect our water and the Food and Drug Administration and the United States Department of Agriculture to ensure safe food.

And remember, these slashes to regulations are paired with additional drastic cuts to food assistance ($300 billion for SNAP) and health care coverage ($800 billion for Medicaid). It’s all part of one big budget resolution aimed at harming ordinary people in the name of providing tax breaks, largely for billionaires and corporations.

Urge your members of Congress to block the REINS Act and oppose the budget reconciliation bill that is coming to the House floor for a vote this week! ([link removed])

Thanks for taking action,
