Elon Musk’s latest tactic would make the infamous Nazi propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, blush:



Grok is an AI (artificial intelligence) bot on Elon’s social media platform X that users can ask to elaborate on topics or fact check other users claim. Last week, the bot started responding to user’s requests with statements about “white genocide” in South Africa - a false claim often used by self identifying Neo-Nazis - and expressing doubt about the Holocaust, even if it was completely unrelated to the request from users.

Restoring apartheid South Africa is a cause celebre in far right circles because of their adoration of the apartheid system in which black South Africans were basically enslaved in a hierarchy which placed white Europeans at the top. Elon’s wealth can be traced to his parents’ apartheid era diamond mine with horrific conditions, and Trump this week started bringing in white "refugees" from the country.

Last week, we highlighted how Kanye West’s new song “Heil Hitler” amassed millions of views on X - aided by a formula Musk specifically designed to push extreme right-wing propaganda into Americans’ social media feeds. Musk's AI bot pushing Nazi propaganda at the same time isn’t a coincidence - Elon Musk is intentionally using his social media platform to push blatant pro-Nazi propaganda and is testing a new superweapon to do so - AI.

Fortunately, the way to counter this new superweapon is by doing the work that we already are - boots on the ground, having real face to face conversations with voters in deep red districts and on conservative college campuses. Study after study has shown that the type of deep canvassing we do is the most effective tactic to persuade voters - even more powerful than the misinformation people read online.

Deep canvassing used to be something Democrats did well, but for the last decade Dems have increasingly diverted resources from canvassing to TV and social media ads that no one watches. It’s no coincidence that during this time, the amount of Americans falling for misinformation pushed by the far-right has drastically increased.

National Ground Game PAC is gearing up for a big canvassing operation in the 2026 midterms, but we need help from supporters to build the infrastructure to effectively counter Trump and Elon’s propaganda in key races that will determine the control of the House.
