That’s why last week, during a critical House Homeland Security Committee meeting, I confronted Kristi Noem about the deeply troubling deportation cases and arrests that have shaken our nation. Noem claimed that due process was followed, so I reminded her of DHS' record during her leadership: profiling and dehumanizing our neighbors, betraying our constitutional right to due process, deporting US citizens, undermining our courts, engaging in corruption, and weaponizing our immigration system to violate civil rights.
Now more than ever, we must stand united against these unlawful attacks. We must fight Trump’s fascist tactics and preserve the very rights that this country was founded on — the rights we’ve always been told safeguard the American dream. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, are only possible when we protect the right to free speech, due process, and to protest unjust policies.
