   *Gov. Reynolds appoints Sarah Martz Chair of the Iowa Utilities Commission*  DES MOINES— Today, Governor Kim Reynolds announced the appointment of Sarah Martz as Chair of the Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC). Martz has served as an IUC commissioner since May 2023.  As a commissioner, Martz serves on various committees and state working groups at the National Association of the Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), including the Committee on Energy Resources and the Environment and the State Working Groups on Transmission and Performance-Based Regulation. She also participates in the NARUC and the National Association of State Energy Officials initiative, “Comprehensive Electricity Planning in an Era of Load Growth.” She also serves as the Iowa representative to the Organization of MISO States (OMS).   “Sarah’s background, engagement in regional and national associations, and experience to date on the commission will be an asset to the IUC as it prepares to help our state navigate an expected increase in demand with additional heavy power consumers coming online,” Gov. Reynolds said.   Before she joined the IUC, Sarah worked in roles at Alliant Energy-Interstate Power and Light (IPL) Company for 11 years optimizing power plants, researching solar performance, and piloting new technologies such as energy storage in Iowa communities. She also managed the electrical distribution engineering team for IPL.   Sarah assumes her role as chair effective immediately.    # # #
