Dear John,
In this week's newsletter, celebrating National Police Week, the One, Big, Beautiful Bill, and my meetings in D.C. If you need help with federal agencies, please reach out to one of my offices listed at the bottom of the newsletter.
Honoring our Men and Women in Blue
During National Police Week, we honored the bravery, dedication, and sacrifice of the men and women in our law enforcement throughout Illinois' 16th District and across the country.
I thank them for their unwavering commitment to protecting our families, friends, and communities.

Breaking Down the Ways and Means Markup of the One, Big, Beautiful Bill
The House Ways and Means Committee voted to provide hardworking Americans, seniors, small businesses, and farmers with much-needed and immediate tax relief.
For two years, Chairman Smith and Committee Republicans have been working tirelessly to craft a bill that will drive investments throughout our communities. This legislation delivers on the promises that Republicans and President Trump made to the American people, including no tax on tips, increasing the child tax credit, advancing research and development, and making the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act's historic tax cuts permanent.
It is critical that Congress pass the One, Big, Beautiful Bill as soon as possible to give rocket fuel to the United States’ economy.
My Priorities Included in the Bill:
Expanding and improving the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit
- This bill renews the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and expands the reimbursement rate, increases the number of projects that can be built using private activity bonds, and accelerates the construction of much-needed low-income housing development in rural communities. These provisions were originally included as part of my Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act.
Supporting farmers and the biofuels industry
- Rural communities across the Midwest have seen the benefits of the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit through new job opportunities and increased markets. The bill extends this key tax credit through 2031, giving industry more incentives to grow and directly supporting farmers and the biofuel economy in Illinois’ 16th District.
Improving access to health savings
- My Health Savings for Families Act was included in this legislation, giving American families increased choices to save and afford healthcare costs through a health savings account and making these accounts more accessible for patients and families.
Tax fairness and relief for the beauty and salon industry
- In April, I introduced the Small Business Tax Fairness and Compliance Simplification Act to level the playing field for beauty salons whose employees rely on tips for a large portion of their income. This will provide immediate tax relief to these small businesses.
Other Key Pieces of the Legislation in the bill:
- Makes President Trump’s historic tax cuts permanent;
- Delivers on President Trump’s priorities of no tax on tips, overtime pay, and car loan interest, and provides additional tax relief for seniors;
- Locks in and boosts the doubled Child Tax Credit for more than 40 million families;
- Supports working families by expanding access to childcare and making permanent the paid leave tax credit;
- Expands and makes permanent the 199A small business deduction to 23%, creating over one million new Main Street small businesses and generating $750 billion in economic growth;
- Makes permanent and increases the doubled Death Tax Exemption for family-owned farms;
Generates $284 billion in new economic growth from American manufacturers; and secures six million jobs for American workers.
Democrats should take some time to read the One, Big, Beautiful Bill before trying to score political points.
My Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act will help address the national housing crisis to give more families access to a crucial part of the American Dream.

Introducing the CHEERS Act
Local restaurants and bars are an essential part of the 16th District's economy.
I was proud to reintroduce the bipartisan, bicameral CHEERS Act to provide much-needed relief to small businesses, support local jobs, and revitalize the hospitality and brewing industry.

Visiting with Sheriff Tadelman
During National Police Week, I had the honor of meeting with local law enforcement officers visiting D.C., including McHenry County Sheriff Robb Tadelman and his wife, Kelly. Sheriff Tadelman does a terrific job protecting the citizens of McHenry County.
I thank our police officers for their selfless dedication to the safety of our communities!
Preventing CCP Chip Smuggling
AI is one of the most high-stakes fronts in our strategic competition with China.
I'm proud to help introduce the Chip Security Act to prevent our foremost adversary from smuggling American manufactured chips. U.S. chips can't be used to power CCP propaganda tools, like DeepSeek.

Cleaning Up Abandoned Mines
Abandoned mines across the country pose serious health risks, limit economic development, and burden taxpayers.
I’m proud the House passed my Community Reclamation Partnership Act to tackle these problems and clean up these sites.
