Joyce’s story reminds us what we’re up against—protecting animals from cruelty is a long-term fight.
Right now, we’re calling on Six Flags to release Joyce, an African elephant who has endured decades of suffering in captivity. Joyce has spent most of her life passing between zoos, circuses, and now, an amusement park. Since 2010, she’s been confined to the Wild Safari exhibit at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, a place built for entertainment, not for animals like Joyce. Joyce’s enclosure at Six Flags is 700,000x smaller than what she would have in the wild. This is no home for an intelligent and curious elephant like her.
