Race to Restore, we’re focused on why we are racing: to help
restore survivors who are now free from exploitation and abuse and are beginning their journeys toward flourishing in health, safety and freedom.

What is restoration? It’s the process of recovery and healing that begins once a survivor of violence is safe from abuse and exploitation. IJM’s experienced aftercare teams walk alongside survivors to help meet their practical needs, enabling them to reintegrate into society feeling strong and empowered.
The story of a young survivor named Daniel illustrates the power of restoration. Forced to work on Ghana's Lake Volta from the age of 10, he was rescued by police at age 14. With IJM’s support, he finally attended school and immediately began to flourish. Today, Daniel has graduated from high school and is pursuing his passions—showing what’s possible when survivors receive the freedom and support they deserve.

Immediate needs like food, urgent medical care, shelter, emotional support and trauma-informed care

Short-term needs like housing, basic food and necessities, access to community resources and pathways to employment

Long-term needs like sustainable housing, ethical employment, access to education and essential life-skills training

Psychological needs like emotional support, decision-making skills and help with long-term planning
