Tomorrow, the Senate Finance Committee is holding a confirmation hearing on the nomination of former Rep. Billy Long, Trump’s nominee to lead the IRS. [1]

We emailed you about the scandal involving Long’s campaign committee from his failed Senate bid raising enough money for Long to pay himself back and pay off the committee’s debt — much from donors who work for companies that have been accused of selling fraudulent tax credits. It reeks of corruption and should immediately disqualify Long’s nomination.

Write to your senators now and urge them to oppose Long’s nomination to lead the IRS.

John, Issue One recently broke major news — Trump’s nominee to lead the IRS, former Rep. Billy Long, took tens of thousands of dollars from donors at companies that have been accused of selling fraudulent tax credits. [2]

When Long was nominated to lead the IRS in December, his campaign committee from a failed Senate bid in 2022 still had $130,000 in debt — money that Long had personally loaned to his campaign. Then, in January, the committee raised enough money for Long to pay himself back and pay off the debt.

The catch? Many of these donors work for firms in the tax consultancy industry or are involved in major tax-related legal battles, including firms that some senators have called to be criminally investigated for peddling fraudulent tax credits. It’s legalized bribery — and should immediately disqualify Long’s nomination.

Long is still awaiting his confirmation hearing before the Senate — which could happen this month — but this scandal should stop it in its tracks. Confirming Long would be a step in the wrong direction for building confidence and trust in our government.

The only way to stop this massive pay-to-play scandal is if thousands of us speak out immediately. Write your senators now and urge them to oppose Long’s nomination to lead the IRS.
