POLITICO reports that the outcry in America's streets has deeply shaped Joe Biden's vice presidential search, "sharpening the focus on an African American woman as his running mate and elevating the prospects of several candidates once viewed as longshots."
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and Florida Congresswoman Val Demings are now both strong contenders for the vice presidency.
Bottoms, Biden's first major mayoral endorsement, has diligently supported him as a surrogate over the course of the past year. Meanwhile, Demings's status as both a congresswoman of color and a former police chief may enable her to help Biden bridge the gap between African Americans and law enforcement.
