Legislative Update

Hello friends,

We are currently working through the weekend in order to complete as much as we can by adjournment on Monday at midnight. A budget deal was reached between House leadership, Senate leadership, and the Governor on Wednesday night this week. As we move quickly closer to the end of session, we can feel the rush, which was at least in part perpetuated by the 23-day Democrat boycott at the beginning. Regardless, we are working hard to wrap everything up and I will keep you updated as I can in the coming days.






Mueller Minute

In this weeks Mueller Minute, I pulled two of my floor speeches for you to see.

In the first one, I talked about the destructive habits of MDE [ [link removed] ] as we consider important, bipartisan legislation for our schools.

In the second, I explained how the science of reading and literacy [ [link removed] ] have actual impacts on student achievement.

The Science of Reading

Speaking of the important of literacy, CBS recently published this article [ [link removed] ] about Chelsea Heights Elementary School in St. Paul. They have implemented the science of reading in their classrooms, and have seen excellent results from it. In classrooms from kindergarten to fifth grade, teachers in the district have seen improvements in their students ability to read, which is a fundamental life skill. I am excited to see real progress as schools across the state implement the science of reading in our classrooms, better teaching and equipping our students with the tools that they need to be successful.






Events

The Cedar Rivers Farmers Market [ [link removed] ] is back for the season! Opening day is Friday, May 16th.

The 17th Annual VFW Car Show [ [link removed] ] is Saturday, May 17th. Registration begins at 8:00am.

The Taste of Nations 2025 [ [link removed] ] is taking place on Saturday, May 17th from 11:00am-2:00pm at the Bandshell Community Park in Austin.

This Sunday, May 18th, is the Spring Fair & Kids Carnival [ [link removed] ] in Blooming Prairie. 

Dairy Days in Adams [ [link removed] ] is in a few weeks, June 6th-8th. 

Dexter Sunflower Days [ [link removed] ] is coming up quickly! The festivities are taking place on Saturday, June 14th. 

Shoutouts

Shoutout to the Austin Adapted Bowling team [ [link removed] ], whose season wrapped up this week. There were many individual award winners, congratulations to all!

Shoutout to Hollis Carlson [ [link removed] ] on the Blooming Prairie Trap Team for shooting 50 straight earlier this week. Congratulations Hollis!
