John,
Extremists in Congress and the Trump administration are waging a war on vulnerable communities. They want to cut billions of dollars from human needs programs to pay for tax cuts for the rich and Trump’s mass deportation machine.
In addition to cutting Medicaid by at least $715 billion and leaving millions of people without access to health care coverage, Republicans in Congress also want to cut nearly $300 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) while shifting costs to the states, which would result in millions of people losing nutrition benefits. All of this is in service of funneling more than $150 billion to the Pentagon and $175 billion to ICE for Donald Trump’s mass deportation machine, virtually increasing ICE’s budget to 13 times its current budget.
None of this keeps us safe or our communities strong. This only creates chaos and causes our communities to live in fear.
Send a direct message to Congress urging them to reject more funding for deportations and invest in our communities instead.
SEND A MESSAGE
From the first day of this administration, Donald Trump has used his authority as President to launch attacks on immigrant communities, many of which have been halted at least temporarily by multiple court decisions. From invoking the Alien Enemies Act and the Insurrection Act to send hundreds of immigrants off to overseas torture prisons without due process, to expanding family detentions, and fast-tracking deportations, this administration has made it very clear where its priorities lie and it is not with vulnerable communities.1
Congress must step in and protect human needs programs that increase access to education, nutrition, housing, and health care programs that will have lasting impacts for generations to come. We should not spend money enriching private prison companies that allow abuse to run rampant in their detention centers.2
The proposed cuts to Medicaid and SNAP will only exacerbate health, racial, and income disparities, while mass deportations will continue violations of our civil liberties and cause a humanitarian crisis to reach new levels. Our tax dollars should not be used to inflict suffering on immigrant communities.
Join us in calling on Congress to reject cuts to human needs programs to fund Trump’s mass deportation machine.
Thank you for all you do,
Dominique Espinoza
