Hey John,
I wanted to keep you updated on my work in Congress: I’m excited to announce we’ve secured $2 million for the Lackawanna County Treatment Court. This money will go towards expanding substance abuse treatment for our community – so we can give patients the care they need.
The opioid epidemic is a public health crisis and has pervaded communities throughout our country. Approximately 130 people die every day from opioid addiction. It ruins lives, tears families apart, and devastates communities. It’s clear that urgent action is necessary and vital to getting these people back on their feet.
But victims of opioid addiction need treatment and time for recovery – not punishment. That’s why money for these types of programs is so crucial to truly eradicate the root of the epidemic without relying on incarceration.
The evidence shows that funding these programs is cost-efficient while also compassionate to those recovering. They yield real results that can transform people’s lives and lead to better communities.
John, I’m proud to bring you this good news for Northeastern Pennsylvania – and I pledge to tirelessly keep working for our district, state, and country.
In service,
Rep. Matt Cartwright
