There’s a lot of news right now, but we wanted to keep you updated: this week lawmakers advanced a bill that would both gut Medicaid and defund Planned Parenthood clinics.

So what's on the table?

The bill that passed out of the Energy and Commerce contains more than $700 BILLION in cuts to Medicaid, which would leave over 7 million people without health insurance and kick over 10 million people off the program. It includes other provisions like requiring co-pays from some of the poorest folks in our country as well as placing work requirements that would drown people in paperwork in order to keep their health coverage. 

And if that is not far enough, their bill language defunds Planned Parenthood, shutting down health centers across the country and stripping 2 million people of their health care provider. 

So what's next?

That’s the bad news - the good news? Congress can’t currently agree on this bill. The next step is for the House Budget Committee to review it - and guess what? They've had to postpone the hearing because extremists in Congress can’t agree. 

Why is this good news? The longer they debate the bill, the harder it will be to pass on the House floor. 

So right now, our call to action has never been more urgent: Congress needs to hear from you!
