Today’s the running of the Preakness Stakes — a proud Maryland tradition celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.
It’s the final Preakness at the historic Pimlico Race Course after a century and a half of horse racing history, and I’m looking forward to seeing the races and the Baltimore community out in their best.
Last year, we approved a deal that will make Pimlico and the Park Heights neighborhood the year-round home of thoroughbred racing, and ensure the Preakness stays in Baltimore for decades to come. With the equine industry making up a quarter of Maryland’s agricultural economy, it’s about creating winners on and off the track.
