Dear John,
This International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) ([link removed]) , we’re reminded that The Power of Communities is not just a theme—it’s a truth we live every day.
As the United States government retreats from decades of global human rights reporting, Outright International is stepping in with truth—powered by community.
Today, we launch our Global LGBTIQ Human Rights Country Overviews ([link removed]) —a comprehensive snapshots of the laws, policies, and lived experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer people in all 193 UN member states, plus other jurisdictions such as Palestine and the Vatican.
This is a live resource and advocacy tool. Built in collaboration with our researchers and global partners, the overviews track:
* Criminalization and decriminalization of consensual same-sex relations
* Legal gender recognition and protections for trans and intersex people
* Civil rights like marriage, adoption, and anti-discrimination policies
* Patterns of state violence, censorship, and backlash—or hopeful signs of progress
* Efforts by anti-gender forces to reinforce inequality or reverse progress

In a moment of deep regression, these updates are a reality check—and a reminder of how far we still have to go.
You’ll learn how:
* Burkina Faso may soon criminalize same-sex intimacy
* Namibia decriminalized consensual same-sex relations—while Ghana and Malawi upheld colonial-era laws
* Thailand is considering new intersex and gender recognition reforms
* Lesbian, bisexual and queer (LBQ) women in Sudan are building resistance coalitions amid armed conflict
* LGBTIQ participation in politics is flourishing in Brazil
* Sweden and Australia are setting powerful legislative and judicial precedents for inclusion

Outright International’s mission is to ensure that accurate, community-informed data shapes policy, fuels activism, and keeps us connected across borders. As official reporting disappears, our collective truth-telling becomes even more urgent.
With pride and purpose,
