You may already know that Medicaid is a vital government program that has saved millions of American lives since its inception in 1965.
But you probably didn’t know that this life-saving program has impacted my family on a deeply personal level.
I’ve talked to you before about my mom’s decades-long struggle with addiction. She overdosed countless times and was churned in and out of the ER until we were able to get her the care she desperately needed.
Medicaid is what paid for my mom’s hospital bills — and without it, she wouldn’t be alive today.
My mom is one of nearly 80 million low-wage workers, pregnant women, children, people with disabilities and seniors who depend on Medicaid every day to get the health care they need. For many, Medicaid coverage is life or death.
But the new budget that Republicans are trying to ram through Congress would slash Medicaid to the bone — ripping affordable health coverage away from millions of people. This will shutter our hospitals and nursing homes, and leave the most vulnerable Americans with nowhere to turn.
These out-of-touch extremists need to understand that Medicaid is more than just a government program. It’s a critical lifeline to my mom, and to millions of other moms, dads, and kids across the country. Please, sign your name to my new petition today urging lawmakers to vote NO on any cuts to Medicaid.
