I don’t say this lightly.

I don’t usually send emails like this on a Saturday afternoon, John. But there’s something I need to say, and I hope you’ll hear me out.

If you care about our climate and our democracy, then you have to care about who gets elected down the ballot.

Because the truth is, so many of the most urgent climate decisions — whether to greenlight a pipeline, invest in clean energy, or protect public land (or hand it over to Big Oil) — don’t get made in Washington. They get made in city councils. County commissions. State legislatures.

These local and state-level leaders are our first line of defense, and they’re also the next generation of national leadership. If we don’t invest early and often in down ballot races, you can bet that the other side will.

That’s why we’re building a firewall to create space for bold, brave, community-rooted climate champions to rise. And that’s going to take all of us coming together to hit our fundraising goals, especially this one, which is why I’m coming to you for help on a Saturday afternoon.

We’re still short of our mid-May fundraising goal — and with just a few hours left before the deadline, I’m counting on our most dedicated JanePAC supporters from Philadelphia to step up before midnight and help close the gap. Can I count on you to be one of them?
