Hello Neighbors,

We are nearing the end of the legislative session, with adjournment around the corner on Monday May 19th. With all the chaos in St. Paul, I want to first step back and congratulate two very special community members. The first is Liz Rydeen. Liz is the director of community relations at the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls and was recently recognized as the Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism May employee of the month. Thank you, Liz, for all of your work for the community and many congratulations on this accomplishment! The other is Carol Anderson, who was recently named the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Minnesota Women in Business Champion of the Year. Carol's commitment to economic development and empowering others has made a lasting impact on our region. Thank you, Carol, for all you do in Little Falls and beyond!

As I mentioned already, we are quickly approaching our adjournment deadline in a few short days. In negotiations, we have reached somewhat of a stalemate over a few key issues. We are standing firm against raising taxes, which would be devastating for businesses, schools, and families. With all of the spending and increases last session, raising taxes this session is a non-starter. We are also standing firm against allocating money for illegal immigrants over schools and veterans. While negotiations have been coming along slowly, Governor Walz has continued to 'road-trip' across the country when we really need his presence in Minnesota. We will continue to push forward in hopes of adjourning on time but it will be no small feat.

This week, we took time to recognize and honor the dedicated individuals who protect and serve our communities. During National Police Week, peace officers from across Minnesota were recognized for their commitment to public safety, their professionalism, and their willingness to put themselves at risk to protect others. These men and women work in challenging and often dangerous situations. They respond to emergencies, deescalate conflicts, and help keep our neighborhoods safe. Their work is demanding, and their sacrifices often go unnoticed. I want to extend a sincere thank you to all law enforcement officers serving in our region and across the state. Your service is deeply appreciated. You represent the best of what it means to serve the public, and we’re grateful for your continued dedication.

While it’s still uncertain what the coming weeks will bring, I’ll continue to keep you updated as soon as I have more information to share. In the meantime, I want to take a moment to highlight something worth celebrating: the annual Day of Caring [ [link removed] ] that took place last week in the Little Falls area. Now in its 14th year, the Day of Caring is a powerful example of what makes our communities strong. Volunteers of all ages came together once again to help clean up yards, rake leaves, and support neighbors who could use a hand. It is inspiring to see students, families, service groups, and individuals willing to give their time to make life a little better for others. Thank you to everyone who made this year’s Day of Caring a success. Your time, effort, and kindness make a real difference.

Day of Caring

BTW: By the way, the weather has gotten much warmer and I've got summer on the brain. If you like gardening or flowers in general, Clear Lake Gardens [ [link removed] ] recently opened for the season! Their farmstand is open everyday from 9:00am - 6:00 pm.
