Red May Heating Up! Canvass for Immigrant Justice, Pressure Chevron, Crawfish Boil
|
Howdy!
As May heats up, stay cool and kick back with the latest edition of your Houston DSA newsletter. Great work to all who mobilized for our May Day action at City Hall, canvassed for immigrant justice at Bayland Park, and came together to learn about Malcolm X at CLASS Bookstore as well as welcomed Nafis Hasan, author of "Metastasis", at Basket Books.
Coming up in the second half of the month, we are ramping up our Demand Immigrant Justice campaign, welcoming new and prospective members at our Houston DSA Orientation, and discussing revolutionary leaders, feminism, and union organizing. We'll wrap up Red May with our Crawfish Boil to fundraise for our elected delegates to attend the 2025 National Convention in August to chart the path forward for DSA.

Canvass to demand the City of Houston protect the rights of immigrant Houstonians
|
ICE is bragging about their attack on immigrant communities in Houston and our City is going above and beyond to support Trump's agenda. On May Day, we launched our demands. Now, we are asking working class people to join the fight.
Our campaign will be leading three canvasses across Houston: the Heights, East End, and Sharpstown areas. We'll inform all Houstonians about their rights and ask them to get involved in the work. You'll join an experienced canvasser.

Buy a ticket to chow down on crawfish and send our delegates to the 2025 National Convention
|
Join us on May 31 for our first-ever crawfish boil! Help us raise funds to send our delegates to the 2025 DSA National Convention in August. Delegates from across the country will come together to set the course for DSA. You can send over a dozen organizers to represent Houston at one of the largest gatherings in US socialist politics.
We'll have vegetarian and vegan options too. Invite your friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, and comrades — the more the merrier! You still have time to get early bird tickets!

Honor Five Revolutionaries' Birthdays, Discuss How to Organize Your Workplace, and Learn Marxist Feminism!

May marks many anniversaries of socialist struggle and victories. May 19th is the birthday of five revolutionaries: Ho Chi Minh, Malcom X, Yuri Kochiyama, Lorraine Hansberry, and Kathy Boudin. Join us via Zoom to honor their birthdays by learning from their work.

As the working class that shapes the world, we have the power to stop and remake it. We can organize our fellow workers to strike back at the billionaire class. Come learn from the experiences that teacher and union organizer Eric Blanc documents as well as those of organizers. We'll be at Bohemeo's and Zoom on Tuesday, May 20th at 7pm.
|
We are concluding our reading group for Caliban and the Witch, a feminist Marxist analysis of how the exploitation of women has been critical to the development of capitalism. Email [email protected] for a copy! We'll be at Menil Park and Zoom on Saturday, May 24th from 2-5pm.
