John,
President Trump just returned from Qatar after meeting with Middle Eastern leaders, and he’s apparently not coming back empty-handed. Reports now suggest he’s trying to bring home a $400 million plane, a so-called gift from the Qatari government, to serve as the next Air Force One.
Just weeks before Trump’s trip, his sons were in the region expanding the Trump Organization’s footprint. Now suddenly, the president is being handed a multimillion-dollar aircraft?
Foreign governments don’t give away lavish gifts for free. Gifts like this are given to curry favor, build influence, and blur the lines between business and governance. Chris believes accepting this so-called “gift” would set a dangerous precedent for what America’s presidency can be bought for.
What do you think? Should President Trump leave the plane in Qatar and refuse gifts from foreign nations?
