Supreme Court rejects Trump bid to resume quick deportations of Venezuelans under 18th-century law
The Supreme Court on Friday barred the Trump regime from quickly resuming deportations of Venezuelans under an 18th-century wartime law enacted when the nation was just a few years old. By a 7-2 vote — you will not be surprised to learn Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented — the justices acted on an emergency appeal from lawyers for Venezuelan men who have been accused of being gang members, a designation that the administration says makes them eligible for rapid removal from the United States under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. The court indefinitely extended the prohibition on deportations from a north Texas detention facility under the alien enemies law. The case will now go back to the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals, which declined to intervene in April.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Star Democrat makes a fool out of Trump official at hearing
Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff absolutely took Trump EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin to task over his department's unconscionable decision to axe a previously awarded federal grant funding a new health clinic and long-overdue updates to wastewater infrastructure in Thomasville, Georgia — whose residents have been exposed to industrial pollution for decades and suffer from higher incidences of leukemia and pneumonia as a result. Zeldin mumbled his way through rote MAGA talking points about the previous administration's misguided priorities, but Ossoff was having none of it, calming asking: "Is a new health clinic for Thomasville, Georgia 'woke?" He continued, "You hurt my constituents, and I don't need a civics lesson on the appropriations process or a broad critique of this program. I wanna know why you canceled this grant?" More of this, please!

Time is running out to stop Trump’s huge attack on Endangered Species Act
Earthjustice: For 50 years, the Endangered Species Act (ESA) has been used to save vulnerable species from extinction. Now, the Trump administration wants to severely undermine that common-sense principle and rewrite the rules to open the door to logging, mining, drilling, and development in vital habitats. The public comment period ends on May 19th — in just THREE DAYS — and we have to make our voices heard. Click here to tell the Trump administration that you support habitat protections for endangered species!
House GOP goon James Comer accuses ex-FBI director of "trying to jizz up some type of coup" against Trump
Ya know, we really should come up with some sort of cringe disclaimer or alert system every time Republican House goober James Comer opens his mouth and starts talking. There's just no good way to prepare for the level of dumb this ignoramus insists on sharing with the public.

Leaked audio reveals extent of Biden’s struggle to remember key details in 2023 interview, including when son died
Audio of President Joe Biden’s 2023 interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur concerning the improper possession of classified documents has been released more than a year after his administration released transcripts. The recordings, published by Axios, reveal the extent to which the 46th president, then 80, struggled to remember key details and dates, was prompted by his lawyers, and spoke in a halting, whispering voice, punctuated by long silences. They shed light on why the White House refused to release the audio while Biden was still in office amid questions regarding his mental acuity, and also perhaps why Hur’s conclusion was that jurors in any trial that might arise over his possession of the documents would have viewed him as a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”

Trump receipt of overseas gifts unprecedented, experts warn
Former White House lawyers, diplomatic protocol officers, and foreign affairs experts have told The Guardian that Donald Trump’s receipt of overseas gifts and targeted investments are "unprecedented," as the White House remakes US foreign policy under a pay-for-access code that eclipses past administrations with characteristic Trumpian excess. The openness to foreign largesse was on full display this week as the MAGA cult leader was feted in the Gulf states during his first major diplomatic trip abroad this term, inking deals he claimed were worth trillions of dollars and pumping local leaders for investments as he says he remakes US foreign policy to prioritise "America first" — putting aside concerns of human rights or international law for the bottom line of American businesses and the wealthy.
House Republicans propose fees on immigrants to fund Trump’s crackdown
On today's episode of Heartless in the Heartland™ we bring you the latest hare-brained Republican scheme to exact maximum cruelty on the vulnerable and marginalized: slapping immigrants with hundreds or thousands of dollars in various fees to seek asylum, care for a minor in the government’s custody, or apply for humanitarian parole — all to help fund Donald Trump's xenophobic immigration crackdown. We're basically gonna force people who have nearly nothing to begin with to fund their own displacement and deportation. It is so good to be great again!

GOP lawmakers plot to kick millions off their healthcare
Care Can’t Wait: Lawmakers are coming for Medicaid — the program that covers more than 1 in 5 Americans. We’re talking kids, seniors, people with disabilities, caregivers, and millions of everyday folks who rely on it just to get by. The people who literally keep households running — are being shut out of basic health coverage. Without Medicaid, essential doctor visits, medications, and basic care is out of reach for so many. Trump absolutely loses it on Bruce Springsteen, calls him a "prune" with "atrophied" skin
The notoriously thin-skinned MAGA cult leader dropped a signature, insult-filled social media post attacking — why not — Bruce Springsteen on Friday, in response to the rock & roll icon condemning Trump during a recent overseas concert. The war of words began when Springsteen told his audience in Manchester, England, that "in my home, the America I love, the America I've written about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration." (Fact.) "Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy and the best of our American spirit, to rise with us, raise your voices against authoritarianism, and let freedom reign," added the legendary rocker. Trump predictably responded — in between posts declaring Taylor Swift no longer to be "hot" and complaining about "radical left losers" manipulating the Supreme Court — with a pathetic screed, complete with a veiled threat to deny The Boss re-entry to America. What a timeline we've found ourselves in, eh?

America, the beautiful?
What a wonderful world?
Hope...
