In recent weeks, the mass protests against alleged police brutality have prompted even some on the left to admit that police unions are blocking reforms that could improve police discipline and accountability. As fringe activists call for "abolishing the police," liberals in Congress wrestle with the dilemma that if they weaken police unions, they will weaken other unions that represent government workers, including teachers' unions. CRC's Michael Watson exposes the situation here ([link removed]

After New York Times op-ed editor James Bennet published an op-ed by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) that raised the possibility of using the military to help restore order, his younger colleagues turned on him, and he quickly resigned. Behind the scenes, the NewsGuild of New York, a local of the Communications Workers of America union, was feeding Times staff the wording that would get Bennett removed. Most Americans just aren't interested in the Left's global warming schemes, so eco-radicals have turned their disinformation campaign to the young, who aren't savvy to their deceiving ways. A closer look at the American Conservation Coalition, a millennial-run nonprofit that supports "limited-government environmentalism," reveals funding from environmentalist groups and peculiar ties to the Audubon Society. CRC's Hayden Ludwig continues his investigation of the eco-Right here ([link removed]

Government-funded nonprofits are an odd creation: Giving to charities is an inherently voluntary act, but government transfers of taxpayers’ money to private charities is anything but voluntary. At a minimum, the lucky recipients should show respect for the taxpayers' investment and the taxpayers' beliefs in how to use the funding. CRC's Robert Stilson reports on how the nonprofits violate these principles here ([link removed]

InfluenceWatch Podcast 123 Police Unions
Blocking Reform ([link removed] this episode ([link removed] the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black Minneapolis man, in police custody, the country has been rocked by debates and demonstrations over police misconduct. And while radicals on the far left demand the "defunding" or "abolition" of police, commentators across the spectrum have noticed the problem of police unions, which often oppose accountability for the "bad apples" said to plague America’s police departments. Today, I’m joined by Will Swaim, president of the California Policy Center, to discuss those police unions and the prospects for reform.Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, Google Play, or Stitcher.
