The University of Pittsburgh could lose hundreds of millions of dollars in federal research funding due to Trump administration cuts and its athletics department regularly loses money. But a landmark legal settlement will force Pitt and other schools to pay more than $20 million a year to student athletes.

The university declined to comment on where that money would come from, while other schools raise ticket prices and student fees.
