Get this, John,
Since 1934, the National Firearms Act has imposed a critical gun safety measure — a $200 tax on gun silencers. But hidden inside President Trump’s budget bill is a provision to eliminate this nearly 100-year-old tax on gun silencers, making these devices easier to access, putting MORE money into the pockets of gun industry executives, and costing the U.S. government nearly $1.5 billion over the next decade
We need your help stopping this.
Silencers are firearm accessories that muffle the sound of gunshots, making mass shootings deadlier, increasing the risk of ambush attacks, and enabling shooters to elude law enforcement.
We’ve seen their fatal impact. In May 2019, a shooter used a silencer to kill twelve people at a Virginia Beach municipal building where he worked before police intervened. And in 2023, the ATF recovered and traced over 400 silencers from violent crime scenes.
At a time when President Trump and his allies are slashing millions in funding for gun violence prevention and healthcare programs, they want to spend nearly $1.5 billion to make silencers more accessible and our communities less safe.
We must demand that Congress value our lives over gun industry profits. So please, take action NOW and urge your representative to oppose this gun industry giveaway that will make silencers more accessible and us all less safe. [[link removed]]

Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
[link removed] [[link removed]]
May marks Asian American and Native Hawaiin/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month — a time to honor the contributions and reflect on the experiences of AANHPI individuals and communities in the United States.
Gun violence is a racial justice issue. It disproportionately impacts people of color, including members of the AANHPI community. Over the past decade, firearm suicide rates [[link removed]] have risen exponentially among AAPI kids and teens and there have been a number of hate-filled shootings targeting the community. This has included a 2023 shooting that killed11 people during a Lunar New Year festival in Monterey Park, California, and a 2021 shooting spree in the Atlanta-area of Georgia that left eight people dead. Yet lawmakers have largely ignored the systemic factors driving violence in these communities.
But community-based groups have worked relentlessly to develop solutions that successfully reduce all aspects of gun violence. And we at Brady are honored to work hand in hand with these vital leaders and organizations.
This month, join us in celebrating and honoring Asian American and Native Hawaiin/Pacific Islander Heritage Month by listening to our podcast, “Examining Racism Against the AAPI Community and Gun Ownership.” It breaks down the increased rates of hate crimes against members of the AAPI community in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and an unprecedented rise in Asian American gun ownership. Honoring the Victims of the Shooting in Buffalo, NY
[link removed] [[link removed]]
Brady advocates join lawmakers in urging Congress to ban assault weapons, like the one used in the attack.
Three years ago this week, a white supremacist drove 200 miles to target a predominantly Black neighborhood in Buffalo, NY. The shooter used an assault weapon to kill 10 Black people and injure three others while they shopped for groceries. Today, and every day, we remember and honor the lives lost in this hate-filled attack and the community irreversibly affected.
When assault weapons are used in mass shootings, they are made even more deadly. In fact, 155% more people are shot in incidents where assault weapons or large-capacity magazines are used. In Buffalo, the gunman was armed with a semi-automatic weapon that had been illegally modified, allowing him to shoot 60 rounds in just minutes.
It is long past time that our lawmakers prioritize public safety and take action to prevent senseless gun violence by banning these weapons of war. This month, lawmakers reintroduced a federal ban on assault weapons and large-capacity magazines.
We know that a ban like this is effective. During the 10-year period the federal assault weapons ban was in effect, mass shooting fatalities dropped by 70%. But in the next decade after Congress allowed the ban to expire — over 300 people were shot and killed in 34 mass shootings, representing a sharp increase in massacres and fatalities.
Enough is ENOUGH. In honor of those we lost in Buffalo, and all victims of gun violence, please take action today and tell Congress to BAN assault weapons and large-capacity magazines, once and for all! [[link removed]]

You’re invited to Brady’s “Building A Future Without Gun Violence” summit in Pittsburgh. Not from the area? Please consider sharing our event with friends and family
[[link removed]] .
Thursday, June 26, 2025
9 a.m. - 3 p.m. ET
The Pittsburgh Foundation
This is a FREE event and no previous experience is required
The communities that are most impacted by gun violence are too often left to carry the burden alone — while gun dealers sit outside of those communities, funnel firearms onto our streets, and profit from the harm. During our Pittsburgh summit, attendees will learn about Brady’s supply-side approach to gun violence, which aims to shift the burden of gun violence prevention efforts from the communities most impacted, onto members of the gun industry contributing to the violence.
Those who attend will have the chance to:
* Explore supply-side solutions like firearm tracing, government purchasing power, and curbing straw purchases.
* Listen to and share stories that center lived experience, community resilience, and the power of prevention.
* Make meaningful connections with front line workers, advocates, policymakers, and more.
* Engage in hands-on, scenario-based experiences that allow you to apply what you've learned.
* Receive a certificate of completion acknowledging four training hours for your participation.
